Checkinstall 1.6.1 works when making an RPM up until this part:
<<<<
Copying files to the temporary directory...OK
Striping ELF binaries and libraries...OK
Compressing man pages...OK
Building file list...OK
Building RPM package... FAILED!
*** Failed to build the package
Do you want to see the log file? [y]:

I don't know why it's looking in /var/tmp/ncurses-root, when all of the files
that it's looking for are in /var/tmp/XcAjalPkoiVRDQTRRPPhk/package
I'm using Mandriva Linux One 2007 Spring.
Thanks in advance.
