It's been a while, so my memory could be hazy, but iirc you could do
something like
echo y n | makepkg
> automatically search and script the symlinks and to not change permissions to
> root:root:755. So I patched it ;-)
I don't understand that bit -- prior to Slackware 11.0, the binaries were
chown root:bin and the packages were made with makepkg.
Pat also said that the reason he uses tar-1.13 is because of the
formatting of tar ztvf changed - which meant that the info in
/var/log/packages was inconsistent.
How's the update for installwatch coming along? :-)
